Christ Our Hope

Have you ever asked yourself, what is the basis of the hope that I have in life?

Many of us roam around in this life without ever questioning, “why do I have hope?”

Hope has a basis. It is based upon something. Many people put their hope and confidence upon the economy, their own abilities, other people, our government, their investments, their good works that they do, etc. etc. There are many things that we can base our hope upon, but they are at best temporal and will not last. The only reliable person that we can put our hope in for everything that we face in life is the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:3.

He didn’t just die to keep us from going to hell, but he died to give us complete life, his life, the very life of God, which is eternal life, or the God kind of life. John 3:15,16; John 6:47; John 17:2,3. It is an abundant life that encompasses all of what we will deal with in this life and the one after we die. 2 Peter 1:1-4; John 10:10; Romans 8:32; 1 Corinthians 3:21-23.

There is no hope that is based out of this natural world that compares with the life of God that he offers to us. As believers in Jesus, we don’t anchor our lives on wishful thinking, the abilities of man, or other things; but our hope is based upon who Christ is and what he did to purchase eternal life for us. Colossians 1:27-28; 1 Timothy 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 2:16; Titus 2:13. The basis of our hope is solid, steadfast, and unmovable. He does not change and therefore we can put the full weight of our confidence upon him, because he’s totally reliable. Hebrews 13:8; Hebrews 6:19; Colossians 1:23.

Putting our hope in that which is eternal and sure is a no brainer. Christ wants us to come to him with all our burdens and cares, and take his yoke upon ourselves and learn of him. He states that his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30; 1 Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6-7. This encompasses everything we will ever face in life. He is reliable.
