Producing the fruit of goodness

I want to talk about the fruit of goodness, which is a fruit of the Spirit. What is goodness? Dictionary.com states that it’s: the state or quality of being good. moral excellence; virtue. kindly feeling; kindness; generosity; excellence of quality; goodness of workmanship; the best part of anything; essence and strength. Thayers and Strongs Greek dictionaries states that the Greek word (agathosune) means virtue or beneficence, uprightness of heart and life and kindness.

Without the goodness of God, where would any of us be who call ourselves Christians. It was the goodness of God, that led us to repentance. He sought us out and drew us to himself, in order to save us. He sent people into our lives to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to us, in order to bring us to repentance. It was his goodness that sent Christ down to earth in the form of a man to live a perfect life, and to die in our place for our sins. It is his goodness, that causes him to supply all of our needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

We see his goodness in the fact that he chastens us or corrects us and treats us as sons and daughters in his kingdom. He gives us wonderful friendships with fellow believers that last a lifetime. The list could go on and on.

So how can we produce the fruit of goodness in our lives? One way would be to encourage one another as believers to not be weary in doing good to others, especially those of the house of faith. Another way is to seek the Holy Spirit to work the fruit in our lives. That should really be the first thing that we do, because it is the (fruit of the Spirit), so he should know how to produce the fruit.

Whenever we have opportunity to do good, we should act on it and get in the practice of doing good to others. These are just a few ways of developing the fruit of goodness in our lives. See if you can think of many other ways of producing the fruit of goodness in your life and put them into practice.
